Příběhy městské hlídky mám na Zeměploše asi nejradši。 Tohle bylo pratchettovsky vtipné, zápletka zajímavá, zkrátka skvělá oddechovka :)

I think I might have found my favourite (or at least sharing 1st spot with two other) Discworld books。 It made me cry with laughter at times。 The City Watch never disappoints and this time - soooooooo much amazingness in a single book。 I should really write a longer review when I get the time。 But until then - go read Terry!

It's something to read Terry Pratchett at the top of his game。 It's even better to listen to it。 It's the best when read with a British accent by a who does voices。 This was loads of fun and I highly recommend it。 It's something to read Terry Pratchett at the top of his game。 It's even better to listen to it。 It's the best when read with a British accent by a who does voices。 This was loads of fun and I highly recommend it。 。。。more

Loved it。 The Discworld is a bit like its own genre with subgenres within it。 This one would go under the crime/mystery subgenre。 It’s a comes after Guards! Guards and a before Thud! As I am just learning)。 Lord Vetinari is easily one of my favourite Ankh-Morpork characters – not quite a villain, definitely not a hero, yet still evoking empathy… By far, the characters are the most compelling of this (and many other) Loved it。 The Discworld is a bit like its own genre with subgenres within it。 This one would go under the crime/mystery subgenre。 It’s a comes after Guards! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 If I'm being completely honest, this was the worst of the four Pratchett books I've read (the first four of the City Watch series)。 I still gave it 5 stars, and it's still entirely, wildly, necessary to read。 Not only for the further developing characters, the humor, the mystery, the physiological, spiritual, and biological discussions of what is life, and the transitional process of the series, etc etc etc。。。 but simply because Feet of Clay still stands clay golem tall as an incredible book。 Pl If I'm being completely honest, this was the worst of the four Pratchett books I've read (the first four of the City Watch series)。 I still gave it 5 stars, and it's still entirely, wildly, necessary to read。 Not only for the further developing characters, the humor, the mystery, the physiological, spiritual, and biological discussions of what is life, and the transitional process of the series, etc etc etc。。。 but simply because Feet of Clay still stands clay golem tall as an incredible book。 Plus, Nobby Nobbs himself comes ever so close to becoming king。 For that alone, you must。 Also, the watch gets a new dartboard。 Of course。 。。。more

After enjoying Guards! Guards!, I was surprised I did not like Men At Arms as much。 I pretty much expected that to be the end of my journey in Discworld assuming I wouldn't like anything else in this series except Guards!!!。。 But。。。 Evidently enough, Feet Of Clay revived my love for this series。。 It's gooooood。。Alen from Libraryofalenxandria (being a unofficial ambassador of Discworld) coaxed me to enter this marvellous world just like everyone else。。 I agree with him in his review about Terry P After enjoying Guards! It's a Huge series so I am taking it as slow as my coughing grandma with Arthritis takes her asthma pills。。 But am getting there。。 Feet of Clay is Highly Recommended if you are in need of a good laugh with philosophical tinge。。。 。。。more

It is a bit of detective work, it is a piece of society, aristocracy, democracy and religion satiric。 All characters are lovable。 I am amused of the inserted short witty paragraph of some detail, which is irrelevant still very deep and witty。 Which grabbed me most is the clock at the Lord's waiting room which ticks completely irregular, so whoever went there with super prepared arguments got completely brainwashed soon when waiting for the audience。 Brilliant! It was okaynot my top favorites but not bad。 My favorite all time is DEATH wish there were more books about him alone (without silly side stories ) And the wizards are hilariously derangedbut Vimes and Carrot are okay but they drag after a while。

Out of the Discworld novels I've read so far this is my favourite。 I found it fairly easy to follow, and would always try and squeeze in some reading。 Out of the Discworld novels I've read so far this is my favourite。 I found it fairly easy to follow, and would always try and squeeze in some reading。 。。。more

#19 in the Discworld series, and they just keep getting better! That alone is a major achievement - I started the Xanth series and gave up in disgust after about #11 because they were going steadily downhill。 While it still contains plenty of Pratchett's inimitable humor, I found this book more reflective than some (addressing subjects like the nature of life and freedom)。 It is also an ingenious whodunit (I defy anyone else to poison one of their characters in such an ingenious fashion)。You don #19 in the Discworld series, and they just keep getting better! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I loved this book - it was so funny with all the puns and witty comments, and I loved the variety of characters - my favourites were Carrot and Angua the werewolf, but also Dorfl in the end! The use of multiple perspectives and storylines which all linked up in the end kept this book throwing me in all directions - I hadn’t guessed the ending with the vampire at all, or the use of arsenic in candlesticks。 Overall this was a very fun, lighthearted readNote to self: this is the funny fantasy crime I loved this book - it was so funny with all the puns and witty comments, and I loved the variety of characters - my favourites were Carrot and Angua the werewolf, but also Dorfl in the end! This one is a little sad and the monologues dragged at few places。 Though the story was interesting enough it doesn't have that 'I want to read every single line' feeling to it that previous two in to his series had。 This one is a little sad and the monologues dragged at few places。 Though the story was interesting enough it doesn't have that 'I want to read every single line' feeling to it that previous two in to his series had。 。。。more

A re-read, of course。 Re-reading Sir Terry is always a joy, though I generally find the books patchier and more uneven the second time around。 Here, the conspiracy to nobble the Patrician and replace him with a stooge drags a little, especially the laboured scenes with Corporal Nobbs as a potential aristocrat; and the final shoot-out in the candle factory, complete with Terminator 2 pastiche, doesn't really work。 But big action scenes were never Sir Terry's strongest suit。Against that, his abili A re-read, of course。 Re-reading Sir Terry is always a joy, though I generally find the books patchier and more uneven the second time around。 Here, the conspiracy to nobble the Patrician and replace him with a stooge drags a little, especially the laboured scenes with Corporal Nobbs as a potential aristocrat; and the final shoot-out in the candle factory, complete with Terminator 2 pastiche, doesn't really work。 But big action scenes were never Sir Terry's strongest suit。Against that, his ability to turn a daft idea inside out and stretch it into a wonderful new shape that's simultaneously hilarious and thought provoking: the gender politics of dwarfs; racial tolerance and inclusivity extending to everyone, even werwolves; free will and the rule of law as they apply to golems; and Sam Vimes, the quintessential copper。 Not forgetting the appearance of Wee Mad Arthur, who we'll go on to recognise, many years later, as the first of the Mac Mac Feegles。And the one-liners that still reduce me to helpless giggles: 'We can rebuild him。 We have the pottery。' 。。。more

Brilliant, funny, and clever。 At this point the characters are distinct and all have their own personalities, and the setting is established and solid。 There's plenty of room for story here, and the story is great, with a ton of different threads that Pratchett manages to still keep clear and distinct。 I also love that there's a lot of complexity explored here-- Pratchett tackles real issues, not just fantasy fluff。 As always, fantastic!
